Landsharks Team Begins to Take Shape
Several soccer players from Central Kentucky have become official Lexington Landsharks. Player announcements are expected soon. On Friday evening, November 22nd several players met behind closed doors to make their commitment to the club official.
These players will become the first team in Lexington since 2000. The Lexington Landsharks will also become the first team in the state of Kentucky to enter the open division for a chance to compete for the Lamar Open Cup since 1993. Lexington Landsharks Head Coach Mike Donnelly was a player on the 1993 roster. He knows firsthand what it takes to get the team ready and why he is such a critical piece to the success of the Landsharks. “We feel like we have all the pieces in place to do something very special for the city of Lexington.” Head of Operations Coach Rue said in a statement.
Director of the Ohio Valley Premier League Brandon Ponchak was also in attendance to congratulate the players on taking their step to join the club. Ponchak also shared his view of the league structure and the support he has received since making the initial announcement of the league which includes 34 states and 13 countries as of the contract signing. He also welcomed the Lexington Landsharks as one of four founding members of the Ohio Valley Premier League.
Our official player announcement will take place on Saturday, December 14th at KBC (Formerly KBA) at 7:00 pm. Following the announcement, a group of the Landshark Players will compete in a futsal exhibition game vs the Cincinnati Dutch Lions. Remaining Landshark Players will be available to meet with the fans, sign autographs, and take pictures. Tickets to the event are $10 at the door. We expect a big turnout and seating will go quickly so plan to arrive early.
